A pressure relief pipe 7 is located within the hot water outlet pipe 1 of a non-pressure thermal storage electric water heater, and extends above the normal level of water in the heater. The upper end of the relief pipe passes through the dome 5 above the top of the outlet pipe. The lower part of the relief pipe is separate from and pivoted to the upper part, and extends through and is attached at its lower end 11 to the rotatable swan-neck 9 forming part of the outlet pipe. Finned washers 13, 14 locate the adjacent ends of the upper and lower parts of the relief pipe.
