758,038. Ratchet jacks. REAY, A., [Representative of Reay, H.]. Feb. 11, 1955 [March 2, 1954], No. 6106/54. Class 78 (3). In a ratchet jack movement of the end A of an actuating lever 16 is converted into linear movement of the driving pawl 13. This is effected by inserting a floating member 19 between arcuate surfaces 15, 18 on the pawl and lever; a link (not shown) being pivoted to the pawl and lever to retain member 19. In a modification (not shown) surfaces 15, 18 are concave and surfaces 20, 21 are convex. According to a further modification (not shown) the pawl and lever are coupled solely by a freely pivoted connecting rod.
