Abstract
A priming fuel for an internal combustion engine comprises diethyl ether and a flammable gas intimately mixed with the ether at a pressure above atmospheric pressure. Flammable gases referred to are methane, ethane, ethylene, acetylene and hydrogen. The liquid component of the fuel preferably contains 60-95 per cent diethyl ether, 1-5 per cent methyl alcohol, 5-30 per cent of a propylene oxide polymer such as polypropylene glycol octyl ether acetate, 0.05-0.5 per cent hydroquinone and a dye such as red coal tar dye. The fuel may be contained in a bulb sealed under pressure, from which it may be injected into the engine.
