Abstract

756,565. Continuous annealing of wire or strip. WINGET, Ltd. Aug. 13, 1954 [Sept. 8, 1953; Oct. 9, 1953], Nos. 24840/53 and 27866/53. Class 72. [Also in Group XI] A continuously fed wire or strip 5 to be annealed is passed around pulleys 6, 7 and about a limb 8 of a transformer core, having a primary winding 2, to provide a closed secondary winding in which heating currents are induced. One or more loops may be formed between the pulleys with the pulley 6 of electrically conductive material to short circuit the or each loop. Both pulleys may be conductive. Alternatively, the short circuited winding consists of a number of loops in series. In Fig. 3 a primary winding 9 is arranged on a transformer core 8, and wire guide pulleys 10, 12 are housed within hermetically sealed casings 11, 13. The casings are interconnected by tubes 14, 15 through which the wire passes, and the casing 11 is supplied with quenching water 20. An annealing atmosphere is maintained in the casings by gas-flow pipes connected to an inlet 24 and an outlet 25. Wire inlet and outlet guides 36, 37 are provided on the casing 11.
