Abstract
756,418. Feeding fibres. TEXTHOLD, AKT.-GES. Dec. 1, 1954 [Dec. 4, 1953], No. 34850/54. Class 120 (1). [Also in Group XXX] A hopper feeder for textile fibre material has a shaft tapering towards a roller pair 9, 10 disposed at the shaft exit, the shaft walls being formed by separately driven rollers or endless aprons or the like; the frictional forces between the roller or apron drive and the fibre material are so controlled that fibre is supplied to the space before rollers 9, 10 only until the material has been compressed to a predetermined extent, whereafter, due to back pressure exerted by the material in the said space, slip occurs between the material and the roller or apron drive. As shown, fibre is fed into a wedge-shaped hopper the sides of which are formed of driven rollers 1-8 which convey the fibre to driven delivery rollers 9, 10. When a predetermined fibre density is reached in zone A, rollers 1-8 slip over the fibre. Rollers 1-8 may be replaced wholly or in part by endless aprons. The roller or belt surfaces may be rough or provided with needles so as to exert a positive grip on the fibre ; in this case, a friction clutch inserted between the outer shell of each roller and its driven core provides the necessary slip; where needles are used, they are inclined so as to be readily extracted from the fibre. In each hopper construction, smooth side walls are provided perpendicular to the direction of the roller axes.
