756,218. Welding by pressure. COMPAGNIE POUR LA FABRICATION DES COMPTEURS ET MATERIEL D' USINES A GAZ. May 26, 1954 [June 24, 1953], No. 15597/54. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group XXIX] A screwed connection 1, Fig. 1, and a tube 3 are simultaneously electric resistance welded to the casing of a gas meter 2 in a single operation. The connection 1 may be engaged by a cylindrical electrode 13, Fig. 3, or be clamped externally by an electrode provided with jaws while the tube 3, which is of soft cold-drawn steel, rests on a cylindrical electrode 10. The upper electrode descends to effect the welding operation. The surfaces to be welded are shaped as shown or, alternatively, the connection 1 and the tube 3 have toroidal surfaces to engage a conical surface on the casing 2 so that line contact is obtained, at least initially, during the welding operation.
