Abstract
Tuyere for injecting separate fluids through the base of a refining vessel contg. molten iron. The tuyere has a central tube surrounded by >=1 other tube to form an annular gap. Tubes each have a shoulder leading to a major dia. and a sealing ring is compressed between the two shoulders the ring having a smaller bore dia. than the major dia. of tube and a clamping strap is used between tubes to compress the sealing ring. The shoulder on tube is pref. formed by a bulge; and the clamping strap pref. consists of a wire spring with two legs passing through two holes in tube and resting on the opposite side of the bulge to the sealing ring. Used on bottom blown oxygen converters for steel making. Appts. allows simple and rapid assembly of the tubes which are inexpensive to make.
