755,685. Lubricating pistons and cylinders. ANDERSON, N. R. June 2, 1954 [July 20, 1953], No. 16264/54. Class 122(1) An air - operated piston and cylinder device is lubricated by grease supplied either directly into the cylinder or into a storage .space 29 formed in the outer periphery of the piston 9 through a hole 30 provided in the cylinder wall 11 and preferably positioned so that it is opposite the storage space 29 when the piston is at one end of its stroke. A further grease supply hole 30a is similarly positioned at the other end of the cylinder. The piston is actuated by air supplied through ports 19a, 19b in the cylinder ends 2, 3 and is packed by cup-leathers 10a, 10b clamped between end discs 12, 13 and a centre piece 14 in which the storage space 29 is formed by a peripheral slot 31 strengthened by webs 32. Lubricator nipples 35, including a spring-loaded non- return ball valve and suitable for engagement with a grease gun, are connected to the holes 30 and 30a. If the grease is of thick consistency, agitators such as balls or discs may be placed in the storage space 29.
