Abstract
The protective facing strip of an adhesive dressing has the surface, which is applied to the adhesive, smooth and of an organic material which is inert to the adhesive. The facing strip may be of paper coated or impregnated with an artificial resin or carrying a film of artificial resin or it may consist of a simple film of resin alone. Suitable resins are vinyl chloride, regenerated cellulose, cellulose acetate and polyethylene as these are sufficiently porous to permit steam sterilization. The facing strip must be pressed into intimate contact with the adhesive so as to exclude all air. Its use maintains a smooth surface on the adhesive which enhances its efficiency when it is applied to the skin.
