Abstract

<PICT:0754810/III/1> Apparatus for coating the internal surfaces of hollow bodies with adhesive or other substance comprises an open tank or container for the substance to be applied and which rotates an applicator dipping into the substance which is discharged as a spray from its upper edge. A rotary applicator g in the form of an inverted truncated cone is mounted by vanes g1 on a shaft d rotatably mounted between lugs of a bifurcated bracket a. The applicator rotates in a container e mounted on the bracket and supplied with liquid from a container h through an inlet e1. A cover k with apertures k1 is mounted on shoulders on inwardly sloping sides of the container. The liquid ascends the sides of the applicator and is discharged from the upper edge and emerges as a spray through the apertures k1 on to the inner surface of a carton or cup. The carton or cup may be lowered over the applicator or the applicator raised within the carton or cup. The applicator surface may have grooves and the upper rim have a sharp edge or projecting points. An external flange g3 below the rim may intercept the liquid and baffles e4 may be provided in the tank or container. The liquid in the container h is maintained at constant level by any suitable means.
