Abstract

754,802. Waveguides. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Sept. 10, 1954 [Sept. 11, 1953], No. 26338/54. Class 40 (8). [Also in Group XL (c)] A waveguide has an adjustable narrow sidewall comprising a channel member, the flanges of which are in close proximity to, parallel to, and extend towards the centre of the wide walls of the guide. The flanges may be separated from the wide walls by thin sheets of dielectric material. As applied to a switch, Fig. 4, two channel members cm<SP>1</SP> and cm<SP>2</SP> are fixed back-toback and are pivoted, e.g. by rotary solenoids, to connect the input to outputs 1 or 2. In another application a channel member cm may be used to tune a cavity resonator. In a further application (Fig. 5, not shown) the flare angle of a sectoral horn may be varied by making each of the narrow walls pivoted channel members (see Group XL (c)).
