Abstract
754,087. Determining physical qualities of materials. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Nov. 25, 1954 [Dec. 24, 1953], No. 34222/54. Class 37. Apparatus for detecting the presence of a gas having hydrogen as a constituent comprises means for bringing the gas into contact with a positively charged, heated electrode comprising a filament 3 (Fig. 1) wound on a ceramic former 1 impregnated with a salt of high electrolytic conductivity, e.g. sodium hydroxide, associated with a negatively charged electrode 2 inserted into tight-fitting holes in the former 1 and supported by arms 4 from a cylinder 5, so that the hydrogen ion content of the gas causes a change in conductivity in the former 1 which is indi. cated by corresponding changes in the interelectrode current, indicated by a meter 11.
