Abstract
754,072. Endless chain conveyers. STEVENS, Inc., F. B. Oct. 7, 1954 [Jan. 25, 1954], No. 28973/54. Class 78 (1). A load is transferred from one to the other of a pair of spaced conveyers by a carriage having load-supporting means and driving means thereon, the arrangement being such that the driving means is controlled by the conveyers to operate the load-supporting means to remove the load from one conveyer, then to operate the carriage to transfer the load and finally to operate the load-supporting means to deposit the load on the other conveyer. The carriage 32 is mounted on a guideway 30 and its opposite ends are secured to the ends of a chain 60 which is driven by a motor 76. A carriage 34 supporting one or more load carriers 114, 116 is mounted for reciprocating lateral movement within the carriage 32 and supports a mainstay 96. The mainstay has a cross-beam 112 secured to its upper end which supports the load carriers 114, 116. Each carrier has an overhanging arm 117 formed with a groove 120 to receive the load. The load carriers are driven by a reversible motor 100 mounted on the carriage 32 through reduction gearing 102, a crank arm 106 and a crank-pin 108 which is mounted in a bearing 110 formed in the mainstay. As the crank turns, the carriage 34 reciprocates and the load carriers move up and down to remove loads from, the hooks 128, 130 of the first conveyer. The carriage 32 then moves towards the second conveyer and the loads are deposited on its hooks 138 by similar movement of the carriers. The motors 76, 100 are controlled by switches actuated by the conveyers and the carriage to effect an automatic cycle of operations.
