Class 132(3) The scoop of a toy excavator has a trap door normally retained in a closed position by means of a cord or the like which at its end remote from the scoop is attached to tension means, further means being provided and manually operable to overcome the tension means to allow the opening of the trap door which closes under the action of the tension means upon release of the manually operable means. In Figs. 1, 2 and 8, the trap door 9 of a scoop is held closed by a cord 12 which passes over a roller 15 mounted in the cab of the excavator and , is attached to a weight 19, or to a rubber band (Fig. 3, not shown). Also attached to the weight or band is a cord 21 which passes round the roller 15 and is secured at 22. On winding the cord further round the roller 15 by means of a crank 16 the weight 19 is lifted or the rubber band stretched and the cord 12 becomes slack thus allowing the trap 9 to open by the action of gravity. Release of turning pressure on the crank 16 causes the cord 12 to be tensioned again and the trap to be closed. In a modification, Fig. 5, a roller 23 carrying the .cords 12 and 21 is rotatable by vertical movement of a press rod 26 which is connected to a roller 24 integral with or joined to roller 23. In a further modification (Fig. 6, not shown) the cord 12 is attached to the weighted end of an arm pivoted in a side wall of the cab, tension on the cord being removed by pressure on a portion of the arm which projects outside the cab. In Figs. 7 and 9 (not shown) pivoted levers having two or three arms respectively are operable by press rods, the trap operating cord and a tension spring being attached to one or other of the arms.
