Abstract
753,467. Automatic control systems. BOART PRODUCTS, SOUTH AFRICA, Ltd. March 24, 1953 [Sept. 18, 1952], No. 8139/53. Class 38 (4). [Also in Group XXXVI] In a process for electrolytically shaping a workpiece wherein a direct current is passed between the workpiece and an electrode, the voltage is controlled below that at which arcing occurs, by means of a shunt resistor 96 in one of the supply lines 94, a signal being generated in the resistor 96 due to an alternating current component arising when sparking or arcing occurs. The signal is fed to a transformer 98 and then amplified by a triode 100, the output of which is connected through a cathode follower tube 102 to a high pass filter. The filtered signal is then passed through a transformer 112, a rectifier 114, a condenser 116 and fed from a potentiometer 118 to the control grid of a pentode 120. The output of pentode 120 is connected to control windings 85 which augment the flux produced by bias windings 86 which saturate to greater or less degree saturable iron core reactance coils 84 in the supply lines of a three-phase supply. The voltage of the supply, which is rectified, to the electrode and workpiece, thus being reduced to cause arcing to cease. Specification 753,466, [Group XXXVI], is referred to.
