Abstract
753,393. Centrifugal casting-machines. AMERICAN CAST IRON PIPE CO. May 19, 1954 [June 12. 19531. No. 14723/54. Class 83(1). A hollow, metal centrifugal casting - mould comprises an elongated, substantially cylindrical outer jacket 11, an inner flask 12 housed within and supported at a number of axiallyspaced points 16 by said jacket, the flask being free to move longitudinally relative to said jacket upon differential thermal expansion and contraction of the flask and jacket, and means preventing relative rotation between the flask and jacket. The flask 12 has vents 34, as described in Specification 717,515, which is referred to, and which are axially aligned with holes 35 in the jacket 11 when the flask and jacket are at the same temperature. The supporting ribs 16 and end-portions 18, 19 are of an external diameter such that there is a clearance between the jacket and flask at normal temperatures, and there is metal-to-metal contact between the flask and jacket when the temperature difference between the two becomes a maximum after casting. Keys 31 prevent relative rotation between flask and jacket. The flask is lined with resin-bonded sand and has end hoppers 20, 21 for receiving cores which are held in by wedges, all as described in Specification 717,515. Specification 717,568 also is referred to.
