Abstract

753,249. Drilling-machines. BUCK MFG. CO. Feb. 10, 1954, No. 3946/54. Class 83 (3). A stand for a portable, electric-drill 30 comprises a post 1 on which a slide 17 for the drill is movable vertically, an electromagnetic foot 3 secured to the post, and a bracket 10, with a stabilizing leg 12, projecting from the rear of the post. The slide is fed against a spring 24 by a rack-and-pinion 21, 22 operated by a hand lever 25, and the drill is secured to the slide by a U-bolt 31 and a screw 32. A rectifier 36, in the hollow post 1, supplies the coils 5 of the electromagnet, and a socket 44 on the bracket 10 supplies the drill, a switch 39 and indicatorlamp 43 also being in the circuit. A pair of electromagnetic feet 46, 47 may replace the single foot 3 and be pivotally secured to the base 2 of the post by pins 49, Fig. 2, engaging lugs 45 on the base. Alternatively, the base 54, Fig. 4, may be pivotally-supported on the post 52 and a stop-screw 59 provided to restrict pivoting. A V-block attachment, Fig. 6, may be attached to the base, after removal of the electromagnet, and used to attach the drill to a cylindrical workpiece 62. A chain 65 and sprocket 67 operated by a handle 69 are attached to the V-block 61 for clamping, and a pawl-andratchet are provided on the sprocket-shaft 68.
