Abstract

752,691. Hay-making. MASCHINENFABRIK FAHR AKT.-GES. May 7, 1954, No. 13348/54. Class 6 (3). A hay-making machine comprises driven tines 8 movable transversely to the direction of travel and fixed on carriers 7 cranked at one end and mounted on endless chains, cables or ropes 5, 6 carried by pairs of wheels 3,31, 4,41, the cranked ends 9 of the carriers being mounted on a further endless chain, cable or rope 11 carried by a pair of wheels 12, 121. The wheels 12, 12<SP>1</SP> are mounted on links 13 connected by a bar 14 adjustably mounted on the machine frame so that the level of the wheels 12,121 may be adjusted thus altering the angular position of the tines with respect to the ground. A castor wheel 22 is provided and is adjusted for height by means of a lever 26. The wheels 3,31, 4,41, 12,121 are driven from a tractor power take-off shaft through a variable speed gearbox. The machine is connected to a tractor by means of a coupling 2. In a modification the machine is provided with a longitudinal shaft provided with a journal which engages and is rotatable in a bearing formed in a coupling and is secured against axial displacement therein. An adjusting lever is provided on the shaft and carries a detent which co-operates with a toothed segment carried on the coupling to adjust the machine about a longitudinal axis. Due to the construction of the gearing in the gearbox, the tines may work in either direction and a plate is provided at one or both sides to limit the movement of the crop. The machine may be mounted in front of a tractor.
