752,306. Subaqueous subways. MAUNSELL, G. A. Sept. 27, 1954, No. 27845/54. Class 68(2) A joint between the two abutting ends of precast concrete subaqueous subway tube sections T, S is formed by forcing a double ring H, K, of projecting plates on the end of the new section S into a block of asphalt A embedded in the face of the already fixed section T and opening a valve V between the occluded space U and the interior G of the fixed section which is at atmospheric pressure. The differential hydrostatic force thus created, acting on the end plate N of the section S, completes the penetration of the plates H, K into the asphalt which was started by hydraulic pressure from a pump X acting on the gasket W in the annulus R.
