Abstract
752,095. Transformers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Dec. 17, 1954 [Dec. 18, 1953], No. 35334/53. Class 38 (2). An enclosed tank 2 which encloses static electric apparatus such as a transformer 3 immersed in oil or the like which completely fills the tank has provided beneath the top cover 1 thereof an internal duct 4 containing apertures 6, 7 through which pass the oil and any gas generated by the apparatus, an outlet pipe 8 being provided adjacent'at least one end of the duct 4 so that as the oil passes along the duct 4 and into a cooling apparatus by way of the outlet pipe 8 the gas which has collected in the duct 4 is also constrained to move along the duct, the gas, however, being collected separately from the oil at the end of the duct by means of a pipe 9. Baffles 11 may be provided to deflect the gas away from, and deflectors 10 to direct the oil into, the outlet pipe 8. The top cover 1 of the tank may have sloping sides to improve the operation and flow of the oil and gas. The gas which is collected may be used to operate a Buchholtz relay.
