Abstract
751,652. Underground reservoirs. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP AMSTERDAMSCHE BALLAST MAATSCHAPPIJ. April 21, 1954 [April 22, 1953], No. 11498/54. Class 69 (1). An underground reservoir having a central column in which pumps can be installed has the column and the wall of the reservoir constructed independently and the roof and the bottom then provided between them. A reservoir in its finished form comprises, Fig. 1, tapering walls 1, a bottom 2 and a hollow central column 3 containing an oil pump 5 and a sludge pump 6 connected to the sludge compartment 8. The reservoir roof consists of an umbrella-shaped portion 11 and an inclined portion 12 and a rotatable platform 13, 14 is fitted within the tank. The reservoir is built, Fig. 4, by driving sheet steel piling 19 into the ground and sinking a prefabricated column 20 to the required depth. The roof portion 22 is then fitted to the column and the soil is removed in layers from between the piling, a ring of concrete 23 being cast at each layer. At a sufficient depth the reinforced concrete bottom is formed and the platform 13, 14 is installed so that the points between the rings 23 can be filled. The inclined roof portion 12 is then placed in position so that its bevelled edges contact the portion 22 and the wall, the roof is covered with earth and the tank is lined. During construction, soil water drainage holes 25, 26 are sunk.
