Abstract

751,203. Hypodermic syringes. BERTHIOT, M. Oct. 6, 1954 [Oct. 14, 1953], No. 28832/54. Class 81(2). A syringe piston of flexible material, such as polythene, is made inflatable to maintain a liquid tight seal with the syringe barrel. The piston envelope 1 is of approximately the correct size to fit the barrel and is supported by an inner tube 2, sealed to it at the top and bottom. The tube has perforations 3 at its lower end and encloses a piston 6, sealed by a nylon ring 7 and designed to be forced down into the tube 2 by turning in threads 4. If it is desired to vent the interior of the piston during sterilisation, the tube 2 is made hollow and communication with the atmosphere is obtained through holes 9 and a removable cap 8. In this case a second sealing ring 10 is provided above the holes 9.
