[Also in Group XXII] A main frame for a gyratory crusher comprises a cylindrical wall 1 having a bowlsupporting ring 6 welded on its upper end, an annular flange 8, by which the frame can be supported, welded on the outside of the wall at or near its lower end, and a housing 15 for gyratory mechanism arranged partly or wholly within the wall 1 and supported by ribs 16 welded to the latter. A caging ring 5 for containing parts of mechanism for pressing the crushing bowl yieldingly against the ring 6 is welded to the ring 6. The latter is provided with inner and outer bevelled faces at its upper end. Bracing ribs 2, 3 are welded to the wall 1, the caging ring 5 and ring 6, and further bracing ribs 9 are welded to the wall 1 and flange 8. Lugs 4 are welded to the caging ring 5 and to the ribs 3. The ribs 16 extend through the wall 1 and are welded to the latter in such a way that the weld metal covers the ends of the ribs. The wall 1 is provided with a liner 26, Fig. 5, which is welded to the wall at points spaced around the upper edge of the liner. The wall 1 is provided with a passage 12 through which driving means for the gyratory mechanism can extend, the passage having a raised support 24 over which a part on the driving means can ride so that the latter is supported as it is passed through the passage during construction of the crusher. The lower portion of the passage 12 is welded to an extension 22, Fig. 5, of the housing 15 and a rib 28 is welded to a rib 21. The flange 8 is welded to the passage 12. In a modification, Figs. 17 and 18 (not shown), the lugs lie partly within the perimeter defined by the depending portion of the caging ring. In a further modification, Figs. 19 and 20 (not shown), the ribs 16 are formed at their outer ends with integral fillets which are welded to the cylindrical wall.
