In a gyratory crusher having a breaking head 2 movable eccentrically with respect to a breaking mantle 6 and a onesided enlargement 9 of the inlet opening co-operating with a breaking sleeve 12 on the axle 1 to act as a pre-crusher, the interior conical surface of the enlargement is arranged concentrically or with laterally increasing radius with respect to the axis 5 of the breaking mantle. The upper end of the axle 1 is mounted in a ball and socket joint 7 carried by a spider supported at the upper end of the inlet mouth ring 8 The portion of the ring 8 opposite the enlargement may be completely covered and serve as an additional support for the ball and socket joint. The breaking ribs 11 of the enlargement are arranged parallel to the vertical middle plane of the enlargement The crusher may, alternatively, be one in which the breaking mantle moves eccentrically with respect to the breaking head.
