Class 110(1) [Also in Group XXIV] A centrifugal pump comprises impeller drive means in a housing, and rotatable impeller means pivoted to the drive means eccentrically of the axis of rotation of the latter, the housing having substantially parallel face portions substantially perpendicular to the axis of rotation, and the impeller means having opposed side faces substantially parallel to the respective adjacent face portions of the housing. The casing of a milk pump comprises parts 15, 16, Fig. 1, which are clamped together against an annular groove in a support 5 by means of a clamp comprising a clamping screw 71 and a bracket 66 which is pivoted at 67. An annular gasket 28, preferably of circular cross-section as shown, is interposed between the parts 15, 16. The impeller blades 50, Figs. 1 and 3, are pivoted on pins 48, so that they take up an angular position which depends on the opposing effects of centrifugal force and fluid forces, and are releasably secured on the pins 48 by means of a spring clip 58 which engages grooves 49 in the pins. The hollow impeller shaft 30 is slid over the shaft 3 of the driving motor 1 and is releasably held in place by a spring clip 42 which engages a cam 45. A collar 40 bolted to the shaft 3 carries the spring clip 42 and transmits the drive to the shaft 30 through the engagement of a shoulder 39 with a shoulder 37 on the shaft 30 The force exerted by the spring clip 42 holds a flange 31 on the shaft 30 in sealing engagement with a seal ring 59 which is formed of hard rubber nylon, the material known under the Registered Trade Mark "Bakelite", or other anti-friction material. The seal ring 59 is seated within a conical flange 18 formed in the casing part 16 and is prevented from rotating by a key 65 which engages a slot in the seal ring. The spring clip 42 and cam 45 may be replaced by magnets 83, Fig. 7, carried by the collar 40 directly ooposite flanges 81, 82 on the shaft 30. Specification 750,489 is referred to.
