750,409. Electric resistance heating. KERR & CO., Inc., A. H. Dec. 1, 1952, No. 30415/52. Class 39(3). [Also in Groups VIII and XII] Organic size is burned from a glass fabric as the fabric passes upwards through the heating zone 16 of an oven 17 where it is subjected to radiant heat from electrical heating elements 60 each consisting of resistance ribbon arranged in a zig-zag across the width of the oven. Combustion air is drawn in at the bottom of zone 16, the inlet and outlet openings being controlled by double-threaded shafts 57 and 48. The furnace temperature, which is in the range 1,100-1,400‹ F., and the speed of travel of the fabric are so controlled that the volatile size constituents auto-ignite in a zone bounded by the lines A-A, B-B and this zone is maintained stationary in the lower half of zone 16.
