Abstract

In a process of producing titanium by reducing titanium tetrachloride with sodium and leaching the ground reaction products with an acidified aqueous solution, the hydrogen content of the titanium is kept low by using an excess of titanium tetrachloride and by leaching in the presence of an oxidant. The excess of titanium tetrachloride in the reduction stage is at least 0,25 per cent (preferably 0,5-3 per cent) by weight of the stoichiometric quantity.
