750,201. Light-sensitive photographic materials. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Dec. 13, 1954 [Jan. 1, 1954], No. 35/54. Addition to 718,404. Class 98 (2). The process of the parent Specification which comprises mixing an aqueous gelatino-silver halide emulsion with a solution of a waterinsoluble water-permeable cellulose ether in an incompletely water-miscible solvent to produce an emulsion comprising as dispersed phase the gelatino-silver halide emulsion and as continuous phase the cellulose ether solution and suitable for production of light-sensitive layers, is modified by replacement of the gelatin by gelatin substitutes such as water-permeable polyamide salts and ethers, partially hydrolysed polyvinyl acetate or cellulose acetate, acrylic acid and acrylamide polymers and interpolymers or polyvinyl alcohol or acetal. An example is directed to the precipitation of silver bromoiodide into an aqueous polyvinyl alcohol solution at 75‹ C., adding this to a benzene solution of ethyl cellulose, homogenizing, dehydrating with sodium sulphate and then by vacuum distillation, and coating the resulting composition on to paper to produce a photographic layer.
