750,025. Covers for resisting fluid pressure. HOOVER, Ltd. Nov. 15, 1954 [Dec. 4. 1953], No. 33860/53. Class 123(1) [Also in Group VIII] In a suction squeeze drier including a clothes receiving flexible, impervious bag 10 having at its mouth an outwardly directed flange 17 affording a substantially plane annular sealing surface 29 for engagement by a surface of a cover (not shown) to close and seal the bag, the back face of the flange is unsupported (as at 30) opposite the sealing surface so that the adjacent portion of the flange can yield bodily but will be urged into sealing engagement with the cover by atmospheric pressure. The mouth of the bag is supported in an opening in a platform 14 and the flange 17 is clamped to the platform by means of a clamping ring 20 and screws 22. The periphery of the flange is chamfered or tapered at 30 so as to provide a surface on which atmospheric pressure acts to press the sealing surface. 29 firmly against the cover when suction is supplied to the interior of the bag.
