Abstract
749,806. Cooling furnace charges. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. July 9,1954, No. 20128/54. Class 51(2). Apparatus for cooling pebble lime, cement clinker, dolomite or sintered iron ore discharged from a rotary furnace comprises concentric walls 13, 15 and 17 of octagonal cross-section supported by steel joists 5 and surmounted by a horizontal baffle 25 onto which is fed hot charge material through a hopper 11 set in the arched brickwork roof 9. The outer walls 13 comprise insulated metal sheets and the charge material falls between the inner walls 15 and 17 which are formed of wedge wire for the passage of cold air supplied to the space between the wall 17 and a central pipe 19. Cold air is also supplied by the pipe 19 below the baffle 25 giving an initial cooling as it passes through the material falling from the baffle into the shaft. The baffle may be replaced by a refractory cone. The upper part of the walls 15, 17 is formed of firebrick 21 and 23. A hot air outlet (not shown) leads through the roof 9 to the rotary furnace. The charge material is discharged at the base of the shaft by conventional vibrators (not shown).
