Abstract

Cement clinker is produced by grinding together a mixture of quicklime and clay (defined) so that the clay is finer than 5 m in size and the entire mixture has less than 8% by weight oversize on a number 170 screen B.S.S. 410 and sintering the mixture in a rotary tube kiln without a preheater in a plentiful supply of air. The clay may be ordinary clay, a mineral containing clay, a silicate or silicate forming material and preferably sand and, or blast furnace slag. The clay is dried before grinding by the hot waste gases from the kiln and the grinding of the mixture is preferably performed hot at 100 DEG C. in a ball mill.
