Abstract
749,805. Linear-dimension gauges. SAUTER, H., and HAHN, W., [trading as HAHN & KOLB Firm of]. June 10, 1954 [June 10,1953; Oct. 7, 1953; Jan. 21, 1954], No. 17040/54. Class 106 (2). [Also in Group XXII] A composite gauge comprises metallic feeler members 1, 2, 3, cooperating in pairs for engaging an article to be measured and an intermediate means 4, 5 at least in part composed of a preferably non- metallic material, e.g. a resin having a melting- point substantially lower than that of the feeler members cast between the members so as to interconnect them in a predetermined space relationship. Preferably the feeler members have bores 8 into which the cast material penetrates. The intermediate means may also comprise substances of lower coefficient of thermal expansion than that of the cast material, e.g. ceramic fillers or a ceramic or metallic plate or tubular member embedded in the cast material. The application of the invention to various types of non-adjustable gauges is described.
