Abstract
1299256 Force transducers SAAB-SCANIA A B 5 June 1970 [5 June 1969] 27226/70 Heading G1N A transducer for converting tension, compression or bending forces into electrical signals comprises a body of magnetostrictive material 1 (or 16, Fig.3, not shown), a primary winding 7 (or 22) through a large hole 2 (or 17) in the region of which compression and tension occur when the body is subjected to a force to be measured, and at least two secondary windings through respective smaller holes which do not affect the stress distribution, the arrangement being such that compression at one of the secondary windings is accompanied by tension at the or an other. As shown in Fig. 1, there are four secondary windings 8, 9, 10, 11 which may be connected in respective arms of a bridge circuit to obtain thermal compensation. The body 1 may be a single sheet of silicon alloyed transformer sheet metal or several sheets cemented together.
