Abstract

Hair-dyeing sticks consist of an anhydrous water-insoluble solid fusible foundation mass which can be emulsified with water in which one or more aromatic diamines, aminophenols or their derivatives or nitro compounds have been dissolved by melting. Dyeing is effected by applying the stick to hair which has been moistened with an aqueous solution of an oxidizing agent. A dyestuff which does not permanently dye the hair but produces a fugitive visible colour may be incorporated. Dispersing agents, reducing agents (e.g., sulphites, hydrosulphites, sulphoxylates, mercaptans, mercapto acid salts), or basic additions (soda, caustic soda or triethanolamine) may be incorporated, and the sticks may be given a neutral coating, e.g. by dipping in paraffin wax or wax. Dyes specified are p - tolylene diamine, p-aminophenol, and nitro-p-phenylene diamine, and also additions which correct the dyeing action, e.g., pyrogallol, resorcinol, and monochlor-resorcinol. Foundation masses specified are condensation products of fatty acids with hydroxyalkylamines, aliphatic alcohols of at least 12 carbon atoms, and esters of such alcohols with fatty acids. In examples, hair-dyeing sticks consist of the following sets of ingredients: (1) Palm kernel fatty acid - monoethanolamine condensation product and p - tolylene diamine; (2) cetyl alcohol, sodium cetyl alcohol sulphuric acid ester salt, p-tolylene diamine, p - aminodiphenylamine, monochlor-resorcinol, triethanolamine; (3) glycerol monostearate, "Sapamine" (Registered Trade Mark), phosphate, p-aminophenol triethanolamine sulphite (4) stearyl alcohol, coconut fatty acid-isothionic acid condensation product sodium salt, and nitro - p - phenylene diamine; (5) cetyl alcohol, sodium salt of cetyl alcohol sulphuric ester, and 2-oxy-1.4-naphthoquinone; (6) glycol monostearate, potassium stearate and 3.4-oxyphenylalanine.
