Abstract

748,933. Windscreen cleaners. BOYCE, R. D. Sept. 24, 1953 [Oct. 21, 1952], No. 26470/52. Class 138(1) A clamp for attaching a windscreen wiper 19, Fig. 1, to an arm (not shown) comprises a body 10 having two depending lugs 12 which define a U-shaped recess to receive the blade 19, holes 11 in the lugs 12 arranged to receive a transverse blade retaining pin 18, an aperture 14 in the body to receive the arm, at least five bearing surfaces (e.g. 15, 15, 16, 16 and 17) arranged within the aperture, and clamping means such as a screw 13 located in the body, for clamping the arm against one or more of the surfaces, the surfaces being arranged in at least three different planes which are substantially normal to the direction of movement of the clamping means. In another embodiment as shown in Fig. 3, the body has a square aperture 23 and the bearing surfaces 25, 25, 26, 26, 27, 28 and 28 are formed on a shouldered block 24 inserted within the aperture 23. The block may be inserted in the aperture so that a pip 29 engages in a depression 30 in the block, or may be inverted in the aperture so that the surfaces 28 contact the base of the'aperture 23. The holes 1 may be in the form of vertical slots so that the pin 18 may slide therein to allow the blade to "lag-over" during its motion over the windscreen. The provision of the various bearing surfaces within the aperture in the clamp body enables wiper arm ends of several different types to be connected to the blade 19.
