Abstract

1366928 Two-part couplings T JERMYN [trading as JERMYN INDUSTRIES] 2 Nov 1972 [23 Nov 1971] 54351/71 Heading H2E A socket comprises a base 1 supporting pairs of contact gripping members, a closure member 3 with a respective aperture 11 for each pair of gripping members adapted to receive a contact 5 of a component (e.g. an integrated circuit 4), and cam means biasing the members of each pair together to grip a contact 5 when the closure member 3 is moved towards the base 1. The gripping members 3 comprising folded resilient strips with one end emerging from a hole 8 in the base and the other end comprising a bowed portion 6 and a straight portion 7, are held against the base 1 by a retainer member 2 riveted (15) to the base. The closure member 3 is slidably mounted on a pair of pins (not shown) secured to the retainer member for movement towards and away from the retainer member. Apertures 11 each receive a pin of gripping members, inclined walls 12 of the apertures bearing against the portions 7 to cam the members of each pair together as the closure member 3 is moved towards the base and member 2. The closure member 3 is held against or away from the retainer member by resilient latches (20). The base and closure members may be of ceramic material.
