Abstract

748,646. Aerials. SHARDLOW ELECTRIC WIRES, Ltd., and JONES, P. Aug. 14, 1953 [Aug. 22, 1952], No. 21131/52. Class 40 (7). An aerial system for the reception of vertically polarized waves comprises four co-planar elements diverging from a common support, the aerial system being supported at the outer end of an element. As shown, the aerial system comprises a centre-fed V-dipole A, A<SP>1</SP> and two interconnected parasitic elements P, P<SP>1</SP>, the #/4 elements A, A<SP>1</SP>, P, P<SP>1</SP> being attached to a junction box 3 and the system being supported from a mast 5 by an insulator 4 attached to the lower end of the lower parasitic element Pl. The angle between elements A, A<SP>1</SP> and between elements, P, A is within the range 45-120 degrees and is preferably 90 degrees. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the upper parasitic element P is collinear with the lower support element P<SP>1</SP> and in another modification the four elements are mounted to form an X, the lower end of the support element or the insulator 4 or the upper end of the mast being bent so that the bisector of the V-dipole is horizontal. The dipole elements may be folded, the lower parasitic element may be longer than #/4 and constitute the mast, and the two parasitic elements may be connected to the lower dipole element.
