748,486. Mandrels. CINEMA-TELEVISION, Ltd. June 16, 1953 [June 17, 1952], No. 15217/52. Class 83 (3). [Also in Group XXIII] A mandrel for holding vitreous tubing with its bore coaxial with the mandrel axis within a known tolerance, comprises a shaft 1, a number of resilient deformable cylinders 8, which may be of rubber, slidably and coaxially mounted on the shaft, their diameter, in the undeformed state, being slightly smaller than the internal diameter of the tubing. A number of rigid spacing-cylinders 5, also of slightly smaller diameter than the internal diameter of the tubing alternate with the deformable cylinders on the shaft. Means 4 apply compression in an axial direction to the complete cylinder assembly to cause the deformable cylinders to expand in a radial direction. The mandrel is particularly adapted for grinding the exterior. of a vitreous tube within a desired tolerance of coaxiality with its bore.
