A mixture of sponge iron, magnesium powder and hydrated cupric chloride (crystals or powder) which produces heat when moistened, is located in one or more porous bags or containers for use as a heating device, e.g. for application to the human body. 93 per cent of the mixture comprises equal quantities of sponge iron, one quantity being of finer grain (40 mesh) than the other ; 4.65 per cent is magnesium powder ; the remainder is cupric chloride. The mixture is in a filter paper packet, one or more packets being contained in a woollen or cotton casing protected before use by a waterproof cover, e.g. of " Cellophane " (Registered Trade Mark), and an outer case or box of leather or synthetic resin.
