Abstract

A mixture of silicon and potassium nitrate, with a mineral for modifying the chemical reaction, is used for vaporizing a pesticide (see Group VI) which is contained in a canister located in an outer canister containing the exothermic mixture and having gas outlets at one end. The mixture may be, by weight, 2 parts silicon, 2 parts potassium nitrate and 1 part talc, china clay, powdered pumice, asbestine, barium carbonate, magnesium oxide, barium sulphate, silica, kieselguhr, mica or slate dust.ALSO:A mixture (see Group II) of silicon and potassium nitrate, with a mineral for modifying the chemical reaction, is used for vaporizing a pesticide which is contained in a canister located in an outer canister containing the exothermic mixture and having gas outlets at one end. The pesticide may be: a ,a -bis-(p-chlorophenyl) - b ,b ,b - trichloroethane, benzene hexachloride - (g - isomer), p - chlorobenzyl p - fluorophenyl sulphide, o,o-dimethyl dithiophosphate of diethyl mercaptosuccinate, azobenzene, pentachlorphenol, tetrachlornitrobenzene, nicotine, dieldrin, toxaphene, p-chlor-phenylbenzene-sulphonate, or p-chlor-phenyl-p-chlorbenzene sulphonate.
