Abstract
747,928. Electric correspondence control systems. SMIDTH & CO., AKTIESELSKAB, F. L. April 28, 1954, No. 12363/54. Class 40(1) The weight of material delivered in unit time by a conveyer is maintained constant by detecting the weight on a supporting roller and varying the speed of the conveyer in inverse proportion. The material is fed in a substantially uniform layer from a hopper 1 to a conveyer 2 driven by a motor 6 via a manually adjustable infinitely-variable speed gear 8 and an automatically adjustable infinitely-variable speed gear 10. The roller 12 responsive to the weight on the conveyer is carried on a frame 13 pivoted at 14 and linked to a counterbalancing frame 27 pivoted at 17 and carrying an adjustable counterweight 18. The servomotor 23, controlled by contacts 25, 26 adjusts the weight 18 via a flexible shaft 19 and screw 16 so that the frame 27 is self-balancing. The motor 23 simultaneously corrects the speed of the conveyer by adjustment of gear 10 via shaft 20. The rate of delivery is manually adjustable by gear 8. The total weight delivered is indicated by a counter driven at.a speed proportional to that of the conveyer. In a modification Fig. 3, (not shown) the same infinitely-variable gear is used both for the automatic and the manual control of conveyer speed, and limit switches on either side of the counterweight actuate an alarm should the deviation in weight be excessive.
