1473501 Weighing HENRY SIMON Ltd 28 June 1974 [19 July 1973] 34336/73 Heading G1W [Also in Division G3] Apparatus for dispensing at least two different materials in predetermined proportions in composite supply comprises gravimetric sensing means, means 15, 16 for dispensing first and second materials, central means 24d associated with the dispensing means and gravimetric sensing means for adjusting the rates of supply of the first material and subsequently of the first and second materials combined to valves corresponding to the required predetermined proportions, and means for monitoring the rate of composite supply and in the event of a variation therein outside specified tolerances, automatically arresting at least one of the dispensing means. As shown, dispensing means in the form of screw conveyers 15, 16 dispense the materials on to a weighing conveyer 10, which by means of strain gauges provides a weight signal for control circuit 24d. The control circuit establishes the rates of supply of the materials either with the belt 10 and conveyers 15, 16 running at full speed, or at a reduced speed to reduce waste of the material. When the required supply has been set up, the rate of supply is monitored by circuit 24d, and if the rate is outside tolerance the circuit causes conveyer 19 to be cut off. If the weight recorded is then correct for the second material, the fault is in the dispensing of the first material, and circuit 24d corrects this fault. If the weight recorded is incorrect, the fault is in the dispensing of the second material, and circuit 24d effects the appropriate correction. Alternatively, when the composite supply rate is outside tolerance, circuit 24d may cause both conveyers 15, 16 to be shut off and may locate the fault by carrying out the start up procedure.
