Abstract

747,877. Electroluminescence. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Jan. 29, 1954 [Feb. 3, 1953], No. 2768/54. Class 39 (1). [Also in Group XL (c)] An electroluminescent lighting panel is supplied with alternating voltage from an oscillator comprising capacitance and resistance and provided with inductive feedback. The panel 1 which also acts as a capacitor is connected in parallel with a tapped inductance 3 connected to the cathode grid and anode of a directly heated triode 2. Tapping 4 is connected to mains terminal 8 and capacitors 5, 6 and resistance 7 are connected to grid and cathode as shown. The circuit produces a peaky voltage curve with steep edges, the characteristics of which are discussed. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown), one side of the panel is connected to the mains, and a switch permits the disconnection of the oscillator and the application of mains voltage for low illumination. The application of oscillator and mains voltage together reduces flicker. Two oscillations operating in phase opposition may also supply the electroluminescent panel (Fig. 4, not shown).
