Abstract
747,837. Tyre gaiters. MOSCA, A. Oct. 30, 1953, No. 30055/53. Class 144 (2). A tyre gaiter comprises two segmental metal plates 3, 3A, interconnected by transverse or zig-zag chain lacing 4 which overlies the tyre tread with the plates 3, 3A disposed on opposite sides of the tyre, each plate having hook means 6, 6a to hook under an annular radiallyinwardly directed flange 5 welded to or integral with the underside of the wheel rim, and the hook 6, 6a being connected to the associated plate 3 or 3A by a tensioning latch 7, 8. As shown the hook means 6, 6a each comprise hookended metal strips removably hooked to the associated plates, the plate 3 having two radial series of apertures 9 for adjustable positioning of the hooked strip 6a. The tensioning latch 7, 8 is a toggle-action hook and lever arrangement pivoted to the plate 3.
