A folding hood is of the kind wherein each transverse line of fold is supported by a hood stay, and wherein alternate lines of fold rise in order to fold and are supported by hood stays called hood-fold stays, whilst lines of fold intermediate the rising lines remain in the plane of the vehicle roof and are supported by hood stays called intermediate hood stays, and is so constructed that on sliding back the hood folds appear at the rear end thereof. The present hood comprises hood-fold stays 4, 8, 12, Figs. 1, 2, connected by pivoted links 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11, to intermediate hood stays 6, 10 and front and rear cross-bars 1, 13, the stays 1, 6 and 10 having leather covered feet 19, Fig. 7, which slide in but are always retained by guide rails 14, and the hood-fold stays 4, 8 and 12 being provided with feet 22 which also slide in the rails 14 until released to rise by a widening of the rails at 20, 21. The pivoted links are cranked to prevent their rising through more than an acute angle when folding the hood. In a modification the feet 19 and 22 run on different parts of the guide rails 14. The feet are normally retained on the rails by helical springs or an elastic band 32 fastened to low points on the stays 6, 10 and passing over the stays 4, 8 and 12. The stay 6 supports a link hinge 31 on a plate 33, which plate may be adjusted on screws 29, 30 to vary the position of the hinge, and the screws are threaded into brackets 28 which may also be moved to vary the fixing positions of the elastic bands 32.
