Abstract

A conditioning composition for rendering textile fibres antistatic comprises mineral lubricating oil, a tertiary amine, an alkyl phenol, an alkylolamine ester and/or amide of a fatty acid containing a chain of at least 8 successive carbon atoms united by carbon to carbon bonds and counting from but excluding the carbon atom of the carboxyl group, and a partial phosphoric ester derived from a mixture of fatty alcohols, each alcohol containing at least 8 carbon atoms. The composition may be modified to render it emulsifiable in water by the addition of an emulsifying agent and, when the phosphoric ester is derived from at least one branch chain alcohol, the emulsifying agent may be a polyoxyethylene ether of a fatty alcohol containing 12-18 carbon atoms or a polyoxyethylene ester of a fatty acid containing 12-18 carbon atoms. The composition may be applied to staple fibres or continuous filaments of cellulose esters and ethers and to partially saponified fibres of cellulose esters. The tertiary amine in the composition may be triethanolamine, dibutyl-ethanolamine, dimethyl- or diethylcyclohexylamine or diethyl-benzylamine. The alkyl phenol may be di- or tri-amyl phenol, dibutyl m-cresol, 2, 4- or 2, 6-ditert.-amyl phenol, 2, 6-di-tert.-butyl phenol, 4, 6-di-tert.-butyl -3- methyl phenol, 2, 6-di-tert.-butyl -4- methyl phenol or 2, 4-dimethyl -6- tert butyl phenol. The alkylolamine ester and/or amide may be a di-or tri-ethanolamine, triisopropanolamine or 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol derivative of coconut oil fatty acids. The partial phosphoric ester may be prepared by the action of phosphorus pentoxide on a blend of fatty alcohols chosen, for example, from n-octanol, 3, 5, 5-trimethyl hexanol, n-decanol, 2-(n-butyl)-hexanol-1, 2-ethyloctanol-1, 2-(n-butyl)-octanol-1, tridecanols, 2-ethyl hexanol, octanol-2, di-isobutylcarbinol and undecanols. In the examples, compositions for treating cellulose acetate staple fibres are described which consist of mineral lubricating oil, triethanolamine, 2, 6-di-tert.-amyl phenol, diethanolaminoethyl ester of coconut oil fatty acids and the partial phosphoric ester obtained by the action of phosphorus pentoxide on a blend of n-decanol, 2-n-butyl-hexanol-1 and 2-ethyl-octanol-1 or on a blend of 2-butyl-octanol-1 and octanol-2. In a further example, a composition which, in the form of its aqueous emulsion, is used for treating cellulose acetate filaments is described which consists of mineral lubricating oil, dibutyl ethanolamine, 2, 6-di-tert.-amyl phenol, diethanolaminoethyl ester of coconut oil fatty acids, an ester of oleic acid with a polyethylene glycol and the partial phosphoric ester obtained by the action of phosphorus pentoxide on a blend of n-decanol, 2-n-butyl-hexanol-1 and 2-ethyl-octanol-1. Specifications 672,286, 691,559 and 725,799 [Group III], and U.S.A. Specification 2,676,975 are referred to.ALSO:A lubricating composition for textile fibres comprises mineral lubricating oil, a tertiary amine, an alkyl phenol, an alkylolamine ester and/or amide of a fatty acid containing a chain of at least 8 recessive carbon atoms united by carbon to carbon bonds and counting from but excluding the carbon atom of the carboxyl group, and a partial phospheric ester derived from a mixture of fatty alcohols, each alcohol containing at least 8 carbon atoms. The tertiary amine may be triethanolamine, dibutyl ethanolamine, diethyl cyclohexylamine, dimethyl cyclohexylamine or diethyl benzylamine. The alkyl phenol may be di - or tri - amyl phenol, dibutyl m - cresol, 2, 4 - or 2, 6 - di - tert. amyl phenol, 2, 6 - di - tert. butyl phenol, 4, 6 - di - tert. butyl - 3 - methyl phenol, 2, 6 - di - tert. butyl - 4 - methyl phenol 2, 4 - dimethyl - 6 - tert. butyl phenol. The alkylolamine ester and/or amide may be a triethanolamine diethanolamine, tri - isopropanolamine or 2 - amino - 2 - methyl - 1 - propanol derivative of coconut oil fatty acids. The partial phospheric ester may be prepared by the action of phosphorus pentoxide on a blend of fatty alcohols chosen, for example, from n - octyl alcohol, 3, 5, 5 - trimethyl hexanol, n - decanol, 2,- (n - butyl) - hexanol - 1, 2-ethyloctanol-1, 2 (n-butyl-octanol-1, tridecanols, 2 - ethyl - hexanol, octanol - 2, di - isobutyl - carbinol and undecanols. In the examples, lubricating compositions are described which consist of mineral lubricating oil, triethanolamine, 2, 6 - di - tert. amyl phenol, diethanolaminoethyl ester of coconut oil fatty acids and the partial phosphoric ester obtained by the action of phosphorus pentoxide on a blend of n - decanol, 2 - n - butyl - hexanol - 1 and 2 - ethyl - octanol - 1 or on a blend of 2 - butyl - octanol - 1 and octanol - 2. In a further example, a lubricating composition is described which consists of mineral lubricating oil, dibutyl ethanolamine, 2, 6 - di - tert, amyl phenol, diethanolamineoethyl ester of coconut oil fatty acids, an ester of oleic acid with a polyethylene glycol and the partial phosphoric ester obtained by the action of phosphorus pentoxide on a blend of n - decanol, 2 - n - butyl - hexanol - 1 and 2 - ethyl - octanol - 1; this lubricating composition may be applied in the form of an emulsion with water.
