747,416. Sheet delivery apparatus. VICARS, Ltd., T. & T., NAYLOR, J. F., and LARGE, R. L. June 16, 1954 [June 18, 1953), No. 16812/53. Class 100 (1). (Also in Group XXX] A conveyer system for sheets of fragile baked confection, such as sponge cake, comprises a delivery conveyer band, such as an oven band, passing around a drum, a receiving conveyer band having at least an initial length of its upper run in substantially the same plane as the upper run of the delivery band and being lapped to form a receiving edge close to but spaced from the delivery band, and air pressure means arranged to direct air into the bight between the two bands to assist the detachment of the sheet from the deliveiy band and to restrain the unsuppoi ted length of sheet against undue bending during transfer from one band to the other. As shown, a sheet 30 of sponge cake is fed by an oven band 1 to a conveyer band 4 which is lapped about an adjustable blade 5 to form a receiving edge, the sheet being detached from the band 1 by air blown through a nozzle 22. This nozzle is formed by walls 21 which extend over the whole length of an air duct 19 connected to a compressed air pipe 28 and extending transversely between two walls 9. The duct is carried by crank arms 20 fixed to spindles 23 rotatable in the walls 9, and its position may be adjusted by a handle 24 fixed to one of the spindles, the boss 25 of the handle having a spring-loaded pin 26 which may be engaged in any one of a number of holes 27 in the outer face of the adjacent wall 9. The blade 5 is carried by a bar 6 which is bolted at its ends to a pair of arms 7 which are slidably mounted in guide blocks 8 on the walls 9, one of these arms being formed with a rack 14 engaged by a pinion 15 which may be rotated by a handle 16 so as to adjust the position of the blade. The lower run of the band 4 passes round a jockey pulley 10 which is rotatably carried between limbs 11 projecting from the arms 7 so that the correct tension of the band 4 is maintained when the blade is adjusted.
