747,254. Pneumatic cores for casting concrete units. MATHEWS C. B. and AMBROSE, J. G. Feb. 3, 1954 [Nov. 3, 1952], No. 27607/52. Class 87(2) A pneumatic core comprises a steel top plate 12 and laterally spaced bottom plates 18, 19 to which are welded respectively pipes 14, 15, 16 and pipes 22. The pipes have longitudinal slots 17 taking flexible side walls 23. 24, 25, 26 made of "Rexine'' (Registered Trade Mark) which are fixed to rods 27 and reinforced by steel plates 33. Within walls 23, 24 and 25, 26 are inflatable rubber cores 30 which on deflation from an inflated position cause lower plates 18, 19 to turn about the outer rods 27 from the dotted line position 18', 19<1> to the full-line position 18, 19. The core may be used to form a cavity of, e.g., 7 or 8 inches width and 25 feet in length. For a smaller cavity a modification is used in which the walls 24 25 are attached to two separate pipes welded to the top plate 12 and spaced on the inner side of pipes 15, 16.
