Abstract

746,645. Filters. SALA MASKINFABRIKS AKTIEBOLAG. April 23, 1954, No. 11846/54. Class 46. In a process for filtering a liquid from particles of magnetic solids held in suspension in the liquid, vacuum filtration is effected through a rotating filter cylinder in conjunction with the action of a magnetic field which attracts the magnetic particles and retains them on the filter medium. In the embodiment of Fig. 1a a set of magnets 1 is placed in a hollow rotatable drum 2 with suction chambers 4 and a porous filter member 5. The magnetic solid particles in the liquid being filtered are attracted by the magnets 1 and retained against the filter member 5 both magnetically and by air pressure. The sediment 9 which forms is compressed by a roller or vibrating means 10. In another embodiment the magnetic set is placed outside the drum and the filter member is supported on the inside of the drum.
