Abstract
746,093. Gauging departure from standard form. DECKEL, H., and DECKEL, F. W. Jan. 15, 1954 [Feb. 13, 1953], No. 1257/54. Class 106 (2). [Also in Group XXII] In a position and shape gauging device comprising a work-contacting feeler, transmission linkage and dial gauge contained as an integral assembly for fitting into a rotating tool holder, the dial gauge is prevented from rotating with the tool holder by a locking element. A tapered arbor 10 fits into the rotating hool holder 12, and has a pin 18, which extends through a bearing member 78 carrying a dial indicator 80, to a carrier member 48, and is fixed to it by a screw 20 which acts against shoulders 22 on the pin. Concentric with the pin 18 are two bearings, one, 76, fixed to the tapered arbor and one, 74, to a shoulder of the carrier member. These bearings 74, 76 allow the bearing member 78 to be held stationary by a locking pin 82 while the rest of the apparatus revolves with the tool holder. Movement of the feeler contact 58 is transmitted by a bell-crank lever 44, fulcrumed on a journal bearing 46, to a crosshead 38 which has a U-shaped guide slot on its underside, Fig. 3. Screwed to the hub 60 of the cross-head is a cross or star-shaped spider 68, Fig. 4, whose limbs slide in four slots 66 in the main connecting pin 18. A collared washer 72, fixed to the extremities of the crossshaped spider 68 surrounds the pin 18 and transmits the axial movement of the crosshead through a lever 88 to the dial gauge 80.
